What Is An Animatic ?
- In animation & special effects work, the storyboarding stage may be followed by simplified mock-ups called 'animatics' to give a better idea of how the scene would look and feel with motion & timing.
- at its simplest, an animatic is a series of still images edited together & displayed in sequence. more commonly, a rough dialogue and/or rough sounds track is added to the sequence of still images (usually taken from a storyboard) to test whether the sound & and images are working effectively together
- This allows the animators & directors TO WORK OUT SCREENPLAY, CAMERA POSITIONING, SHOT LIST AND TIMING ISSUES THAT MAY EXIST WITH THE CURRENT STORYBOARD. The sotryboard and soundtrack are amended if necessary, and a new animatic may be created & reviewed with the director until the storyboard is perfected. editing the film at the animatic stage can avoid animation of scenes that would be edited out fo the film. animation is usually an expensive process, so there should be a minimum of 'deleted scenes' if the film is to be completed within the budget

First Animatic - No Sound
- This is iconic's first edited animatic, AS SHOWN IN THE CLIP BELOW WE USED PHOTOGRAPHS INSTEAD OF DRAWING - AS A GROUP WE DECIDED THAT THIS WOULD BE MORE EFFICIENT AND MORE VISUALLY PLEASING. We used a teaser trailor from saw, we used this to help immitate our pace & quick cuts for our trailer.
- the pacing of our trailer starts off slow and builds up over time, by doing this it keeps the audience on their toes wanting to know what's going to happening. by using fats paced quick cuts (also known as a montage) it makes it hard for the audience to see every single shot as each picture flashes by so quickly - so this leaves the audience in suspence which is the effect teaser trailors should have on their audience, as it helps to encourage them to watch the film when it is relreased in cinemas later on.
